Meet the Teacher
Janelle Izumiya

Global Pathways English Academy

Hello! I’m Janelle, the founder and head teacher at Global Pathways English Academy.
Originally from New York, USA, I have had the unique experience of living in both America and the United Kingdom. I spent 8 years living in Japan before moving to England, where I lived for another 8 years, before returning to Japan with my family. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of both American and British English, as well as the cultures, customs, and everyday experiences that come with living abroad.
Before starting Global Pathways English Academy, I taught at an international preschool in Tokyo and also taught Eiken preparation classes. I have had the privilege of helping students achieve excellent results, including one student who passed Eiken Grade 2 at just 9 years old and another who passed Grade 3 at 8 years old.
But for me, teaching English is about much more than test scores.
I love watching children become curious, gain confidence, and discover that the world is much bigger than they may have imagined. I want my students to see English as something they can use, enjoy, and connect with, rather than simply another subject to study.
As a mother of three children myself, I also understand that every child learns differently. Children have their own personalities, interests, learning styles, and attention spans, and they each need different kinds of encouragement and support. I strive to create lessons where children feel comfortable being themselves while being encouraged to try new things and step outside their comfort zones.
At Global Pathways English Academy, I combine my experience living abroad, my teaching background, and my experience as a parent to create an English-learning environment that is both educational and genuinely enjoyable.
My goal is to give children in Obihiro and throughout Tokachi more opportunities to discover the world through English—to learn about different cultures, communicate with people from different backgrounds, and develop the confidence to explore new possibilities in the future.
I look forward to meeting your family and helping your child begin their own global pathway.
Janelle
